The technology

ExoTMS™ — a modern evolution of TMS, used for depression since 2008.

ExoTMS™

EXOMIND uses patented ExoTMS™ technology to non-invasively stimulate the specific brain regions involved in emotional regulation, cognitive function, and self-control. By activating those neural pathways, it helps restore healthy brain activity and enhances neural connectivity.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a well-established class of treatment for Major Depressive Disorder. ExoTMS™ is BTL's next-generation implementation, engineered for patient comfort, operator-independent setup, and walk-in / walk-out workflow.

What a session looks like

Designed to feel like a quiet appointment, not a procedure.

  1. 01

    Before

Eat and drink normally. Take your usual medications unless your physician says otherwise. Skip alcohol and caffeine the day of your session. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Remove any jewelry or metal near the head — the magnetic field interacts with metal.

  2. 02

    During

You sit back. The applicator is positioned over the target brain region. You'll feel a light tapping or tingling on the scalp as the magnetic pulses fire. No anesthesia, no medication. The therapy should never be painful — if anything is uncomfortable, we adjust the settings on the spot.

  3. 03

    Sound

EXOMIND emits a loud, rhythmic clicking sound during treatment.

  4. 04

    After

No recovery time. You can drive, return to work, and resume your full day immediately. Your provider monitors progress between sessions and adjusts the protocol as needed.

Frequently asked

The questions patients ask most before booking.

Is EXOMIND right for me?

EXOMIND is FDA-cleared for adults with Major Depressive Disorder who have not had satisfactory improvement from antidepressant medication in the current episode. The clearest way to know is a consultation with Dr. Libreros — we review your history, current medications, contraindications, and goals before recommending anything.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation as a light tapping or tingling on the scalp. The average pain rating across reported BTL data is 0.2 out of 10. If anything is uncomfortable during a session, settings are adjusted on the spot. Therapy should never be painful.

Will I be able to drive home? Will it disrupt my daily life?

Yes. EXOMIND is walk-in, walk-out — no anesthesia, no recovery time. You can drive, return to work, and resume your normal day immediately after a session.

How many sessions will I need?

Course length is individualized and determined by Dr. Libreros in consultation, based on your history and response. We discuss the expected course at your evaluation visit before you commit to a treatment plan.

Will my insurance cover it?

Insurance coverage for TMS for depression varies meaningfully by plan and prior-authorization criteria. We help you understand what your specific plan covers during your consultation and provide the documentation insurers typically require. Self-pay options are also available.

I take antidepressants — do I need to stop before EXOMIND?

Not necessarily. EXOMIND is cleared specifically for patients whose current antidepressant medication has not produced satisfactory improvement — many patients continue medication during treatment under physician supervision. Safety has not been established in patients who are unable to discontinue concurrent antidepressant medication; we work through this carefully in consultation.

What about anxiety, OCD, PTSD, or other conditions?

EXOMIND's FDA clearance is specifically for Major Depressive Disorder. Safety and effectiveness for OCD, PTSD, substance abuse history, psychotic disorders, and other conditions have not been established. Dr. Libreros can discuss what evidence does and does not support for related conditions during your consultation.

Where is treatment delivered?

At Neuromag Institute, 4914 N. Armenia Ave, Tampa, FL 33603. We see patients from across the Tampa metro — Tampa, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, Lutz, and St. Petersburg.
